Cover work-Sketchbook Project 2012

I started my sketchbook by working on the covers. I wanted to have the feel of my mini books that I hand bind and make with origami paper and washi tape. Also since my theme is Transatlantic I thought it would be fitting to cover it in something from overseas, from my favorite place in the world, lovely Japan. Then I added a little interactive surprise for those who get to the end of the sketchbook, a little envelope pocket with pull tab and photo I took on my last trip to Japan of a sweet school girl on her way home before the earthquake happened. trying to decide if I should add text to the envelope to let the viewer know that this was about an hour before the quake. Please feel free to leave a comment on your feelings if I should add the text.

  1. Hi Jannese!
Beautiful work on your cover! I think you must definitely add a note on the circumstances surrounding the photo. It will be much more meaningful to viewers. And keep in mind, in years to come some people may have forgotten the disaster or may have no knowledge of it at all.
    All the best,
    Lynne

  2. I've been busy looking around on Twitter to see how everyone else is getting along with their Sketchbook Project books, and I really like the look of yours, and I appreciate your enthusiasm too. Love the cover. And yes, I definitely think that a note about the timing of the sweet photo would add meaning and poignancy to it. My nephew was there too (in fact he still is, he has lived in Japan for nearly 5 years now) - it took him 7 hours to get home from work that day as he had to walk for miles!
