Maison Premiere and Other Brooklyn Lovelies

Maison Premiere has become my new favorite bar. They have the best oyster happy hour from 4-7pm, $1 oysters from a huge daily selection of east and west coast oysters. Beautiful cocktails prepared by their dapper mixologists. The whole bar feels like you stepped into a 1920's Parisian bar, from the decor to the impeccably dressed staff and beautiful garden. Located on Bedford Ave at Grand St in Williamsburg Brooklyn.

K-Town in NJ

Fort Lee, New Jersey lies just outside of the Washington Bridge on the New Jersey side, and for the past 25 years a Korean neighborhood grew into amazingness. This Sunday I went to New Jersey to help find a dog a new home and as a reward we drove ourselves to lunch to Fort Lee to TCB Tofu House, who also has another outpost in NYC. We had the delicious BBQ ribs, Galbi, lunch special that comes with tofu soup and ban chan (side dishes). The side dishes included, fried fish, macaroni & ham salad, kimchi, assorted pickles. Its all absolutely mouth-watering.

After our delicious Korean meal we headed next door to the Korean Bakery Koryodang to fill up on tasty sweet treats.

A Good End and New Beginning

I've been fortunate enough to have a lovely end and beginning of year. First up, D and I tried the new Danish restaurant in Tribeca, Aamanns-Copenhagen a smørrebrød shop by Danish chef Adam Aamann. They prepare delicious tiny smørrebrød (you'll need to get two), an open face sandwich, with combinations like roast beef sirloin with, crispy onions, remoulade sauce and freshly grated horseradish. They also make their on aquavit. Afterwards we walked around Soho for a bit, such a lovely area of NYC.

Lastly, we headed to St. Marks Place for a sweet treat at the Spot, a Korean dessert place where I had an amazing green tea tiramisu.

On Monday I had a great surprise I met up with lovely Jenna and her husband, from My Life as a Magazine. We had tea at Cha-An, my favorite Japanese teahouse and we walked around a bit in the EastVillage. Jenna also gave me sweet gift, a copy of this months Frankie! She knew I had a digital subscription but there aren't any hard copies to be found in NYC. Thank you Jenna, it was lovely to meet you.(that's tea smoked salmon on toast)

Yesterday we started the year with a great art installation at the NY Armory on Park Ave by artist Ann Hamilton. The show had beautiful silk sails floating in the middle of the room and it had swings attached to it with cords and when people sit and swing it creates a dance of fabric. The only part of the show I found disturbing were the poor pigeons kept in tiny cages that are released at the end of the night into the armory at the end of the show. The pigeons seem distressed and I don't believe animals should be used in any art, they're living beings not objects. But other wise the show was pretty spectacular.

The Weekend

This weekend my friend Dada and I went to try Va'beh's lunch. Va'beh serves Northern Italian cuisine with wonderful pasta dishes, chacuterie, salads, and daily specials. They also have an extensive wine list. I have gone many times to dinner which is always amazing so we figure lets try the new lunch menu. As usual their food and service is spectacular. I had a simple mozzarella and tomato sandwich with a glass of red wine and it was very delicious. The gracious hostess and owner Quianna gave us complimentary olives and olive oil herb bread for being regulars which is appreciated immensely. Lunch offering are paninis and pastas.

Collage and Bento!

This week I popped into Kinokuniya for lunch and to buy a gift and of course I left with two books for myself. First the amazing Collage book with endless pages of collagie (I know that's not a word)goodness. It's hard to say what's my favorite project because it's all so beautiful! I love the matchbox ideas, the collaged tees, and the lovely travel notebooks. There's a site with a mini movie of the whole book here. Japanese Collage Book Japanese Collage Book Japanese Collage Book Japanese Collage Book Japanese Collage Book Japanese Collage Book Next up is the Just Bento Cookbook by Makiko Itoh. She makes cooking sound easy especially quick bento lunches. I've been wanting to do this every since I been working at a client's office in Herald Square where the food choices are Korean or fastfood, I like Korean I just can't eat it all the time. I'm not a cookbook kinda gal either but I thought this one was an easy one. Let's see what I come up with. Just Bento Just Bento

A little work and little fun-playing catchup

This past week was a packed calendar, first I have to apologize for my lack of updates. I've been getting regular freelance gigs now and whenever I have a little time I'm out enjoying the sunshine.

I rode my bike in the park and saw lots of fine feathered friends.
