Cha-An! Oh take me back to Japan!

Cha-An Japanese Teahouse

Yesterday I treated myself to lunch at Cha-An in the East Village, a wonderful Japanese tea house and lunch venue. It reminds me so much of Aoya in Nakameguro, it felt good to be there and calming. I was seated the counter in true Japanese fashion for the single patron, the lovely Japanese server gave me three menus, one was the $10 menu, another was the lunch sets and tea selections and the last was a drink and special menu Cha-An has daily specials and a lunch special for $10, Monday to Friday, but they also have these other more elaborate lunch and tea sets with delicious dishes and wonderful teas. I got the the Cha-Kago lunch set that comes with a Today's soup, which was an egg drop soup, two sides soy milk quiche with mushrooms & scallions, tea smoked salon on a be of watercress 15 grain rice, dessert and your choice of tea. My sides were a pork and cabbage dish, and a fried whitefish with root veggies dish, pretty yummy. I chose the Kagoshima Shincha, green tea, wonderful aroma, and a delicious chocolate raspberry cream puff. I sat at the counter for a very long time no one rushed me and I heard the thunderstorm outside so I just sipped my tea and perused Instagram after I was done with my dessert. Their attention to detail is just amazing from the little flowers on the counter to the beautiful tea containers. The staff is also super friendly and nice and are all Japanese.
