Montreal Part Trois

Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal
Starting at the top Pics 1-3. Olive et Gourmando, a delicious breakfast and lunch venue in Old Montreal on the main street, St. Paul. We had the "Egg on your Face", poached eggs with gruyére, scallions and sriracha sauce, in a pressed panini. Super yummy, but really big! You can share. They have lots of pastries too. 4. Rue St Paul, in Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal) 5. Also on Rue St Paul is Petit cafe connected to the Petit Hotel, they just have an awesome logo. 6-12. Jean Talon Marché, an amazing outdoor/indoor market. They have vendors selling fruits & veggies, Canadian syrup & honey, cheese & meats, flowers & plants, pies & pastries and lots more. Plus there are picnic tables in the front so you can enjoy some of your finds. There's a creperie & juice bar too! You'll kill a few hours here for sure, try and go on a sunny day. 13. An abandoned thrift store, or someone's crazy office in a Metro tunnel, at the Sherbrooke sta..14. Breakfast at Le Cartet. 15. Self Portrait. 16. Mondial de Biere, a big beer festival held at the Hilton, I know this is not beer but their stand was so cute, and its fudge need I say more.

Montreal Part Deux

Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal Montreal

From the top: 1-3. Schwartz' Deli, best smoke meat sandwich in Mile End. 4-5. Cute vintage shops in Mile End on Boul. Saint-Laurent (same street as Schwartz' Deli). 6-8. Pics of little houses in Le Plateau, some have large paintings on the side like the one above on Av. Duluth. 9-11. Le Cartet, one of my favorite places to grab breakfast or lunch on Rue McGill just about a block from Old Montreal. This place has a little market upfront where you can purchase to-go food and beverages, and lots of great chocolate! 12-15. Old Montreal, classic old European architecture, new cuisine restaurants, cafes, a few boutiques and in some parts a tourist trap. Go see it, it's worth it and there are a few places to catch a bite or a cafe, the tourist traps are quite obvious and can be avoided. Check out the Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal and the Champs De Mars. Along the water in Old Montreal there is a lovely park, lots of cafes and on the Old Port is Cirque du Soleil and you can get last minute tickets. You can grab a Bixi bike pretty much anywhere on the waterfront and take a nice ride along the water onto the little peninsula that holds Habitat 67. 16-17. Habitat 67, is an amazing housing project from 1970 designed by architect Moshe Safdie. It looks like it belongs in a Star Wars movie. Rent a Bixi bike on the waterfront at Rue McGill, which is the closest spot to cross the mini bridge to get to Habitat 67. You may go over your 30 minute limit on your bike but it will be under $2 CD for an additional 30 minutes, it's really worth it. You'll be on the opposite ports from Old Montreal and there are giant ships that are pretty spectacular to see. 18. The Metro, super easy to navigate, the orange line is the best line to be on it has a station everywhere you want to go if you don't want to ride a bike or it's too cold for a bike ride.

Montreal Part Trois (three) will be up tomorrow.

Montreal: Part 1

Hi Folks, sorry for the hiatus. I was in Montreal last week, shooting a friend's wedding on the weekend and the week before I was dealing with a crisis with one of my dogs which I will post separately because it's something all dog owners should know. D, and I were in Montreal for a few days we really loved it. We rode bikes, ate a lot, walked around, appreciated the architecture, saw Cirque de Soleil! I just dropped off three rolls of film which I will post later in the week when I get them back, for now you'll have to settle for some hipstamatic prints.

Montreal
Our hood, the Le Plateau Montreal
Sortie! Sherbrooke station Montreal
home away from home, The Sherbrooke, cool apartment building. Montreal
Jean Talon Marché (above and below) Montreal
Montreal
Pullman, winebar, sadly the view across the street of homeless folks sleeping. Montreal
Port by Habitat 67 Montreal
Habitat 67, an amazing architectural housing project from the late 60's conceived by Moshe Safdie Montreal
the tents at Cirque de Soleil on a cloudy Monday when it was closed, we went the last night we were in Montreal, it was lovely. Montreal
Le Cartet, a wonderful restaurant open for lunch and breakfast, then after 3pm you can pick up pre-made food from their kitchen in their mini mart upfront and seat yourself to eat, it was my favorite place, just a block from Old Montreal Montreal
Bixi bikes! Best way to get around Montreal if it's not freezing. It's a great city bike program, where you can purchase time on a bike. You can rent for 24hrs, 48hrs, or 72 hrs. You need a credit card and there's $250CD deposit. During the 24hr period you can use the bikes unlimited number of times but you can only have it out for 30 mins at a time. This may seem like a problem but it's not because there's a bike station pretty much every three blocks and you just need to wait 2 minutes between checking your bike in and taking another. We found that there were many places that the train wasn't near or bus and jumping on a bike was so much easier, especially with so many dedicated bike lanes. Montreal
This was so cool to see artwork covering entire sides of buildings, this one is on Duluth Av, in the Plateau area Montreal
Yummmm.. Schwatrz' deli was amazing, first meal we had there. $6.90CD for a small smoke meat sandwich. Get it part lean and part fat. All lean is too dry. Montreal
Schwartz' counter Montreal This was a freaky kids tv show in Montreal all in French, a little like Planet of the Apes ;)

More info on Montreal and places to eat and go to when I get my rolls of film back at the end of the week.
