Frida at the New York Botanical Gardens
Two Fridays ago, I made a trip up to the Bronx, to the New York Botanical Garden, which far exceeds the Brooklyn Botanical Garden in beauty and in size. The NYBG is hosting a beautiful exhibition on Frida Kahlo. The main building which is the Library houses a small collection of her paintings that include still lives and portraits that include botanicals and her most famous painting, "Self-Portrait, with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird. Then they have a recreation of Casa Azul's gardens in the Haupt Conservatory with beautiful plants native to Mexico like cactus, bougainvillea, succulents, and many more. They also recreated the cactus fence outside the conservatory by the pond. It was a super easy trip from Grand Central Station, just take the Harlem Line up to the Botanical Gardens Station and its literally across the street. Ticket is about $7.50 each way. Its open until November, but you should go before the summer is done to enjoy the rest of the gardens in full bloom.
Getting There:
Take the Metro North Railroad from Grand Central Station.
Harlem Line
To Station-Botanical Gardens.
