A Productive Week

This past week I did a little home improvement and I made myself two skirts. The chair is a vintage mid-century modern Danish dining chair upholstered with ikea fabric. The skirt is a pattern from a Japanese craft book slightly altered in Nani Iro pretty polka dot cerulean blue. The second skirt is from a Built By Wendy pattern from her Sew U book in Heather Ross' super cute Strawberry print from her Briar Rose Collection that I purchased at Purl Soho. And the cute little non shelves are from Urban Outfitters.

Sewing things

Last night I poured myself a nice glass of Blue Moon beer, grabbed my pins and scissors and got ready for some fabric cutting. I pulled out the Nani Iro fabric, pinned my pattern and away I went.... Snip snip snip. The fabric is ready! But after looking at it again I'm starting to feel like the yoke should be solid black, sucks cause that means I wasted some very expensive fabric. Well at least the pieces are small. I may have to postpone sewing it on the weekend until I but some black woven fabric that will look nice with the Nani Iro one.



Yesterday I went to Ennju for lunch to get some Japanese Curry Rice and normally love them but they totally screwed me with forgetting my order and making me late back to work. While I was there I picked up some yummy green tea and chocolate candies in mushroom shapes.

Sick Day: Crocheting, Movies and NANI IRO!

I've been sick for almost 3 days and at this point I'm not sure if it's my hormones or just a regular ol' virus. In between doubling over in pain and sleeping I've been crocheting super cute flowers from the Fumi book I got last week. After watching Virgin Suicides and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I was ready to kill myself, but lucky for me the UPS guy rang the doorbell, and I FINALLY received my bolts of Nani Iro fabrics! I ordered them around Thanksgiving I had forgotten that I even ordered them anyway they are gorgeous and they'll go up on Etsy this eve. Sneak peek below ,my dslr camera battery crapped out on me in the midst of the photoshoot so for now accept my iphone pics please, better pics to follow.

Part II Nani Iro dress update!

I realized I never even posted a pic of the finished Nani Iro dress I was making this summer. I finished end of August, after completing all the sewing I dip dyed it and added sashiko embroidery to the placket.

So here's the dress that I finished this week. It's a lovely box weave cotton, with a nice drape. Since the summer's soon to end and I'm not much of a white wearer Part II of this dress project is that I dipped dyed it today in a grey gradient. It's in the process of drying so I will post pics later of that portion of this project. Next step is some Sashiko Embroidery!

New Japanese Craft Books!!!

I went to Mitsuwa in Jersey for a delicious food fair. Even though they had multiple vendors of delishiocity I stuck with my favorite Katsu lunch set. Before hopping back on the Shuttle bus to NYC I ran into the Japanese bookstore in the same strip mall, Books Sanseido , and perused the small craft section. I got lucky and found several books that I don't already have, I'm so exciting to try one of the patterns! Here are the books:
